Elena Simpkins, PhD

  

Elena is a graduate from the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology. During her time there she earned a Ph.D. where she completed her dissertation titled: Black Women in Sport Leadership: An Exploration of the Sport Intersectional Model of Power (SIMP). This work situated intersectionality in the context of organizational culture and specifically sought to utilize the preliminary Sport Intersectional Model of Power (SIMP). Elena’s model explored Black women’s sport leadership; which was examined through the lens of Black feminist thought. This qualitative study highlighted Black women’s leadership opportunities and experiences while aiming to address organizational elements which may serve as barriers for Black women. Additionally, Elena is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated and sits on the advisory board for White Collar Sports.
